How to show on-site banners and slide-in messages
What it is
A banner or small box shown on your website to every visitor — even people who haven’t subscribed to notifications.
When to use it
To put a sale, an announcement or a reminder to subscribe in front of everyone browsing your website.

Before you start
- relaybell on your website (see the Install page). You don’t need any subscribers.
Set it up
- 1Go to Send and choose the On-site message tab.
- 2Pick a style: Slide-in (a small box, bottom-right) or Top banner (a bar across the top).
- 3Type a Headline, and a Message if you like.
- 4(Optional) Add a button: type the Button text and a Button link. The button only appears when there’s a link; with no text it says “Learn more”.
- 5Check the Preview, then click Publish message. It goes live on your website straight away.
- 6To stop showing it, click its Live label under Your on-site messages to switch it to Paused. Click again to bring it back.
- 7To change a message, click Edit, make your changes and click Save changes.
Every setting, explained
- Who sees it
- Visitors see one message at a time, newest first, on every page until they close it or click its button. Then it stays hidden for them for 3 days.
- Views, clicks, click rate
- How many times the message was shown, how many clicks its button got, and the share of views that got a click.
- Length limits
- Headline 120 characters, message 300, button text 40. Longer text is cut off when saved.
Tips
- Invite visitors to subscribe, or promote a sale — on-site messages reach people who aren’t subscribers yet.
- Pause seasonal messages instead of deleting them, so you can reuse them.
- Use a Slide-in for a gentle nudge and a Top banner for something urgent.
- Keep one message Live at a time, so visitors get one clear message.
Watch out for
- Live messages show on every page, to every visitor. There’s no targeting and no end date — pause a message yourself when you’re done.
- Publish message makes it live immediately. There’s no draft.
- Delete is instant and can’t be undone. Pause instead if you might want it back.
